International Workers' Memorial Day
Each year on April 28 workers around the world stop to reflect on Workplace Health and Safety and the right for every worker to come home safely. Unionists and their communities pay respects to fallen and injured comrades as well as those suffering work related illnesses. Some gather at events like the ones planned in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, others take time for some personal refection, no matter how you pay your respects and reflect the important thing is that you take the time.
Each and every year Unionists wish with all their heart that they were somewhere else – that there was no need for a memorial day because no one died at work and there were no families grieving for lost ones who never came home.
IWMD is a day when every worker should stop, reflect and recommit to making their workplaces safer every day.
Mourn the Dead and Fight Like Hell for the Living.
